    Kelsie McNair

Artist and designer Kelsie McNair originates from southeastern Virginia. Kelsie has been making things with her hands her whole life. From writing songs and recording them on her tape recorder to selling guitar pick earrings to her friends in high school. She's driven by material experimentation and formulating ways to extend her aesthetic through various mediums. Kelsie graduated with an Associate of Science in Audio Engineering and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 2011. At 22, she opened a brick-and-mortar vintage storefront in Norfolk, Virginia, With Lavender and Lace, which thrived for four years. After the glow of owning a storefront faded, she moved into a more quiet studio practice and developed a unique phone case design from resin and flowers that launched her online career. At 26, Kelsie found her way into glass after participating in the Chrysler Museum Glass studio assistantship program, where she learned the ins and outs of working in a glass studio. She then apprenticed with Avery Shaffer of Ellenburg and Shaffer, a local bespoke stained glass company. Within a year, she was a Hauberg Fellow at Pilchuck Glass School and started teaching glass classes at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, New York. These days, you can catch Kelsie making big, beautiful pieces that get to live in people's homes and teaching her skills to hundreds of students each year. She resides in the historic neighborhood of Crown Heights in Brooklyn, New York, where she works in stained glass full-time. Find her online at softshapes.me/.
