Maxine has been quilting for more than 30 years and making kaleidoscopic quilts for most of that time. Remember when we were kids and we all had those kaleidoscopes, the long tube with beads in them, that you could turn and turn and never see the same design again. Well, cutting fabric into kaleidoscopes is very much the same. Maybe that is why it is so enticing. Maxine spent her working life as a computer software developer. It was so long ago, that as an error routine, she wrote the code that said, “I can’t read, call Maxine.” Maxine got a call from the site with the disbelief that the computer would know her name. Those were indeed the good old days. Years ago, when Maxine was a teenager, she asked an aunt why she worked, and the answer was that she needed a reason to put her girdle on every day. Playing with kaleidoscopes has been exactly that—a reason to buy more fabric, to enjoy all that she has, and to get up every day.
