    Maddie Kulig

Maddie Kulig is the founder, lead designer, sewist, and driving force behind Madalynne Intimates. She is a South Florida native who learned to sew at 18, discovering her mom’s sewing machine in her linen closet shortly after she passed away from breast cancer. She took it to her local tailor and one lesson turned into a two-year apprenticeship with a tailor who once worked for Christian Dior. At the age of 21, Maddie landed her dream job. She applied for a summer internship in technical design at URBN (parent brand for Anthropologie, BHLDN, Free People, Terrain, and Urban Outfitters). Only intending to stay for ten weeks, Maddie ended up staying for 7.5 years. During her stint as a technical designer of sweaters, knits, and intimates, she discovered DIY lingerie. She challenged herself to make a bra––the best designers know how to make their products, she thought. Sewing that first bra, she found her calling. Hungry to learn more, Maddie continued to make more bras, panties, bodysuits, and so on. She would post about her makes on social media and share her tips, tricks, and patterns. When people started asking her to teach lingerie, she began hosting 1-day intensive bra-making workshops (she’s taught over 100 classes, from California to London). Standing in line to get coffee one day, she was approached by an executive of Urban Outfitters, who expressed how she loved that Maddie was making her own lingerie in a fast fashion world. In the summer and fall of 2016, Urban Outfitters launched two exclusive Madalynne collections in 50 stores and online. That same summer, Simplicity launched the first two Madalynne patterns, #S8229 and #S8229, and Maddie would continue to design patterns for the brand. In August 2016, Maddie left her 9-5 job at URBN and took Madalynne Intimates full-time. Since then, Madalynne has become a lingerie brand for a new generation. As a designer, sewing teacher, and successful blogger, Madalynne continues to offer DIY lingerie kits, online tutorials, workshops, and sewing patterns. Madalynne’s innovative bra-making workshops regularly sell out. For people who don’t sew, Madalynne offers ready-made lingerie that is hand-crafted by a small team of sewists in their Brewerytown studio in Philadelphia. Madalynne also wholesale DIY kits to sewing shops worldwide (US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden) and ready-made lingerie to boutiques around the country. Combining attention to sewing and fit with exclusive fabrics, Madalynne creates customized me-made and ready-made lingerie for all sizes, races, genders, and styles. Madalynne Intimates is the only brand offering lingerie you can buy ready-made or sew yourself. madalynne.com
