Born and raised in England, Julia McLeod earned a degree in textile design and worked in the British textile industry in Yorkshire and Scotland. From a design job on London’s Savile Row - the heart of the men’s tailoring industry - she relocated to New York City for a menswear career there. America has been her home ever since. After quilting with cotton for years, Julia developed a passion for sewing with upcycled silks from neckties, kimonos, and saris. She has mastered techniques that tame silk’s tendencies to fray, slip, and stretch. Julia teaches and lectures nationally and internationally. Her quilts have won awards in the UK and the USA.
