    Debra Gabel

Debra Gabel, (designer, quilter, lecturer, author, fiber artist, business professional) was born in Middletown, New York. Debra started sewing as a child and quilting as a teen. After many professional moves within the United States, she and her family settled in Clarksville, Maryland. Armed with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design, Debra worked professionally in the packaging industry. Her independent graphic design business, Mixed Media, has been in operation since 1988. After rediscovering quilting in the late 1990s, she started teaching and patterning in 2000. She has steadily built up her own pattern line of over four hundred patterns, including forty-two beautiful florals, twelve butterflies, twelve Bible scenes, over two hundred and fifty signature stamp designs, twelve sea-life patterns, a series of holiday houses, skinny barns, several baby quilts, tens of thousands of custom Fabric Plates for Row by Row Experience, and four published pattern books. Debra teaches and lectures internationally at quilt guilds, seminars, and fiber events. Many of Gabel’s art quilts have been published in books and magazines and on the Internet. Debra has done segments on Interweave’s Quilting Arts TV with Pokey Bolton in season nine. Debra’s intentions are to continue lecturing and teaching, to continue as a quilter, speaker, and author, and to travel the world through quilting.
