Kathleen McVeigh and Dale Donaldson are the creators and owners of the sustainable clothing brand Kitty Badhands. Kathleen grew up in Philadelphia, PA, and has been quilting since she was young, helping her grandmother assemble her 100% hand-sewn patchwork quilts. She continued to study sewing and textiles at Sarah Lawrence College and Maryland Institute College of Art, where she majored in Fiber Art and Sculpture. Regarding apparel, Kathleen is entirely self-taught, using her fiber arts experience to build on her journey toward clothing construction. Dale is an artist, illustrator, and graphic designer born in New Mexico and raised in upstate New York. In the early aughts, he found his passion for visual arts and music by co-founding Tick Tick, a screenprinting, design, and music promotion company based in Vermont. In 2021 he left his corporate job in marketing to join Kitty Badhands and propel the brand into the spotlight. Kitty Badhands creates modern, sustainable clothing from vintage materials. They are best known for their quilt coats but produce a wide range of apparel and accessories, from dresses and tops to bags and hats. They have sold over 1,000 handmade quilt coats through their website, kittybadhands.com, and with Free People from their Burlington, VT studio.
