    Jean Wells

    Jean Wells is a prolific author, teacher, and shop owner and is well known in the quilting world for her willingness to share ideas in the classroom as well as the business world. In 1975 she created one of the first quilt shops in America, which she and her daughter, Valori Wells, now own together. The Stitchin’ Post is located in Sisters, Oregon, and is celebrating its 42nd year in business. Jean has won numerous awards: Business of the Year in Sisters, Citizen of the Year, the Michael Kile Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Imagination Award for Paradise in the Garden in the 2000 Millennium Quilt Contest, and the Best of Color Award for Hidden Stone at Pacific International Quilt Show. She was also the first independent retailer to be inducted into the Primedia Quilters Hall of Fame, and in 2010 became the 40th inductee into The Quilter’s Hall of Fame. In 2012 she was a featured on Oregon Art Beat, a PBS program that features Oregon artists. Jean and her husband, John, live in Sisters with Nina the cat and Gus the dog, where she can ride her bike to work, weather permitting.
