Quilter's Precut Companion

Are you still a bit confused on precuts? C&T Publishing has put together a nice 32 page booklet called Quilters Precut Companion. This all-in-one guide to precuts is a spiral-bound, easy to take with you reference guide that covers everything you need to know about precuts. This little gem is filled with charts and information on everything precutdid you know there are at least 7 different names for 10x10 squares? I liked the chart called Precuts and Quilt Size, if no other fabric is used, this chart gives you an idea of how many packs or strips of the most common precuts you will need to make the various size quilts. You will also find instructions for making Easy Half-Square Triangles and blocks using the half-square triangle units. In fact there are 25 traditional quilt blocks you can make from precut squares, strips, and triangles.

I absolutely LOVE this book! From the first page to the last it is a wonderful resource of all things pre-cut. Not only is there a "Waddya call it?" section (what each fabric manufacturer calls *their* precuts) but there are sections with basic patterns, how much do you need to make an X by Y size quilt and the list goes on. If you only buy one new quilt-related book this year make it this one. You will be glad you did!

Action get yourself a copy of this fabulous book. We all love precuts and this book will get them out of your stash and into fabulous makes. It gives you standard quilt sizes for all kinds of beds; standard precut sizes and their names. Then it tells you how many precuts are needed to give six kinds of quilts. This is extremely useful information. The book goes on to show how to cut up your precuts in different ways. I was blown away by this. I am not a very experienced quilter myself, but I think this is of use to any quilter. For example, did you know that you can cut a fat quarter 13 different ways? Borders, bindings and backings are also given along with yardage needed for different width borders. There are easy methods for cutting different triangles, stars and other shapes as well as blocks. Youll find invaluable tips and tricks. Its only 32 pages and its a small sized book, around A5 size, BUT it is jam-packed full of time-saving knowledge and know-how. A great reference that is so easy to use. I think you are getting a lot for your money here if you are an avid quilter.

If you want to make your own binding there are charts for yardage required based on quilt size and desired binding width as well. There is much, much more. You can't go wrong with this companion!
