Quilt Talk
Share
Have you ever heard a group of quilters talking? With all the technical terminology, sewing machine parts, measurements, and rulers of all sizes, sometimes it’s hard to even know what they are saying. Throw in a few clever quilting acronyms and you could get really lost. For the uninitiated, let’s take a look at some of the easy ones:
- BOM = Block of the Month
- FQ = Fat Quarter
- HST = Half-Square Triangle
- LQS = Local Quilt Shop
Once you’ve mastered those terms, now it’s time to challenge yourself with some of the more complicated (or should I say more humorous?) expressions:
- NESTY = Not Even Started Yet
- PIGS = Projects in Grocery Sacks
- STABLE = Stash Total Already Beyond Life Expectancy
- SQUID = Sewing a Quilt Until I Die
- STASH = Special Treasures All Secretly Hidden
- TGIF = Thank Goodness It’s Finished!
- UFO = Un-Finished Object
- WHIMM = Work Hidden In My Mind
No matter what stage of your quilt that you are at, there is an acronym for that! Study up because there will be a quiz in five minutes!
