Have a Happy Bird-Day Party!
Share
What could be more fun than a gathering of friends to gossip and stitch? It’s a chance to catch up, to laugh, and to create with creative people. Let me invite you to my favorite gathering, a Bird-Day party!
In my online class, Felt Flock: Easy Embroidered Birds, I’ll show you how to make these sweet little birds with wool felt sheeting from Fibres of Life (or you can use your own felted wool). First, let me tell you why I like working with this wool sheeting:
-
It is easy to stitch into for those of us with, let's call them, “gently used” hands.
-
It is 1/4 inch thick, so it holds your little birdies' shape.
-
You can stitch on both sides to make two different bird designs.
-
It comes in a variety of colors.
-
It supports a Fair Trade company.
-
It is fairly priced. You can get 8-9 birds out of one sheet of felt!
In the class, you’ll learn how to transfer the given patterns for two bird shapes. I’ll cover how to conceal thread ends so you can stitch on both sides of the fabric to make a reversible bird. I’ll show how to add a wing, eye, and beak using other felt or cotton fabrics for your basic bird. Along the way, you’ll learn multiple hand embroidery stitches that hold the pieces in place and bring the bird to life.
And then comes the fun part! Decorating your bird.
The possibilities for adding decorative stitches to your sweet little bird are endless. Give him wondrous wings, tantalizing tail feathers, and a beautiful belly, all with stitch combinations and colorful threads. I’ll show you a basic version of decorating and then variations on bird designs for inspiration.
As a bonus, you have access to my Stitch Library for the Right- and Left-Handed Stitcher. With the stitch library, you can add even more decorative stitches to your birds. As your bird would say, the sky’s the limit!
So what do you do with all these sweet birds?
Give them away as gifts. Make a mobile with them. Attach them to those felt bowls you’ve been making. Sew them onto a pouch or purse. Hang them from your favorite tree.
So why not host a Bird-Day party for your friends and stitch a whole flock of sweet little birds! It is a relaxing, joyful way to create something fun and easy.
