Please welcome Judy Whitman, author of Affectionately Yours, to our blog for National Sewing Month! Today she shares with us several ways to adapt the projects in her book to make heartfelt gifts for every occasion.
Engagements, bridal showers, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, a new home and the birth of a baby are among life’s most significant milestones. My book, Affectionately Yours, is a collection of eleven elegant cross-stitch designs, each of which is a wonderful way for you to honor and celebrate these special occasions. Inspired by antique quilts, samplers, china, and linens, each hand-stitched piece is intended to become a cherished keepsake to be treasured for years to come.
The Love pillow would make a lovely ring bearer’s pillow or a bridal shower gift. It could be framed, finished as a neck roll, or made into a pillow as pictured below.
Count Your Blessings
is actually a birth sampler towel to welcome a new baby or an adopted child into the family. Two models are charted and illustrated–one in blue and the second one in pink. Personalize this design with the baby’s birth date, name, and birth weight.
The
Wedding Quilt Sampler uses nine different quilt patterns with a wedding theme. The pattern can be adapted to many uses: given as is as an engagement gift, worked individually as ornaments for a wedding wreath, or mounted in a pillow, frame, or tray as a wedding gift.
And lastly, the
Handkerchief Pillow with Monogram would be lovely gift for yourself or a friend. The letters used in this design were found in an antique French sampler and form the centerpiece of this design. Although it has been finished as a decorative pillow, it would make a lovely pillow for a ring bearer, bridal shower, or housewarming gift.
