Make a Foxie Pillow
Posted by Mary Hertel on Sep 12th 2017
I am obsessed with pillows! Lately I want to make pillows of every shape and size, but my favorite is the rectangular sofa pillow. Let’s put together three of my paper-pieced blocks to create the rectangle. This pillow will fit a 14” x 28” pillow form.
One of my favorite animal blocks is the Fox from my Cute & Clever Totes book. In each block, I am using a different fabric for the bow tie.
Here are all three Fox blocks ready to go.
Cut and sew 2 rectangles 1½” x 8” between each of the blocks. Press the seams to the side.
Cut and sew 2 strips 3 ¾” x WOF (width of fabric). After pressing the seam toward the blocks, trim the excess from each side. Remove the paper from the back of the blocks.
Steam press a 14½” x 28½” piece of fusible fleece to the back of the pillow top. Steam press a 14½” x 28½” piece of Stabili-TEE Fusible Interfacing behind the fleece. Quilt as desired. Hand sew buttons where indicated on the block patterns. Note: I like to be creative in the placement of the eyes!
Cut 2 rectangles 14½” x 19”. Hem 1 of the 14½” edges on each piece. Overlap the two hemmed edges until the back of the pillow measures 14½" x 28½”. Pin the top of the pillow to the pillow back, wrong sides together.
Cut and sew 3 strips of 2½” x WOF together and bind as if binding a quilt.
Hand stitch the binding to the back of the pillow.
Finished!
