Wendy Mathson has been making and designing quilts since 1981, beginning with a baby quilt made in anticipation of the birth of her first child. Since then she has been involved in the quilting community in the San Diego area, first as a guild member, later as a teacher, and more recently as a guild lecturer. In 1992, she was part of a quilting circle at her church that began making prayer quilts. A few years later, Wendy organized Prayers & Squares, The Prayer Quilt Ministry. This interfaith nonprofit organization now has over 800 chapters worldwide. She began designing and teaching simple strip-pieced patterns to be used for prayer quilts. Wendy loves coming up with ideas for improved piecing techniques and has invented a system of cut-after-you-sew tools called Quilters' TRIMplates.
Wendy now works as a freelance book editor/illustrator and teaches quilting classes for a local community college. She and her husband, Dan, have lived in the San Diego area for over 25 years and are the parents of two grown children, Scott and Michelle.
