Puffy Pinecone Pillow

Class Description
Participants will learn a time honored style of quilting using a fabric folding patchwork method to create a 12 inch x 12 inch Pine Cone Sampler.
Participants will learn folding techniques and create their own hand sewn Pine Cone sample 12 x 12 inches resulting in the knowledge to make this time honored style of quilt.
Participants will be able to describe how the Pine Cone Quilt is made, identify who made Pine Cone Quilts, where Pine Burr Quilts were made and know the other names for this type of quilt.
Participants will recognize Pine Cone Quilts, recognize types of fabrics useful in making this quilt and gain increased appreciation for hand sewn quilts by making a small sampler.
Participants will view photos in the book of actual vintage pine cone quilts and understand the reason it takes so long to complete a full quilt.
Participants will trace and cut a 5 by 5 inch squares, cutting in class and at home if they wish (pre cut at least 50 -70 squares)
Classroom Preparation
Participants will need- a square piece of cotton fabric preferable white or off white 12 x 12 inches for the base, #10 white or off white crochet thread and 3 or 3 ½ inch doll needle.
No sewing machine and ironing needed. Instructor will bring extra pre-cut base fabric, extra needles and thread.
Bring enough color choices to suit your creative style. Pick colors you love with a variety of light, medium and dark options.
Supplies Needed
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pins
- Pencil or pen to trace fabric squares
- (1) small safety pin
- (1) 12 x 12 precut square of fabric or larger if someone wants to challenge themselves
**Note of caution – batik fabrics are hard to sew by hand
