Amy Garro is a modern quilter who lives in Indianapolis with her husband and three children. Her quilting journey began in elementary school, when she learned how to sew from her artist mother. After sewing garments for years, Amy began her first bed-sized quilt in high school, but it took six years to finish it and give it to her now husband as a gift. She eventually started making baby quilts as gifts for friends. After she learned how to machine quilt, she picked up speed, left garment sewing behind, and dove right in to quilting.
Amy took art classes in college and now draws heavily on her design experiences while planning quilts. With her type A personality, Amy especially loves the precision that paper piecing offers and loves to make masculine quilts, often inspired by her husband’s engineering designs and sketches. Amy spends her days taking care of her three little boys and her nights (and the boys’ nap times) working on quilts. When she’s not changing diapers or singing silly songs, you can find her at her local quilt shops, the Indianapolis Modern Quilt Guild, or her sewing machine.
