Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend Quilt
Class Description
This class will demonstrate a simple cutting and piecing method for constructing the Diamond's are a Girl's Best Friend Quilt. This quilt is great for a beginning quilter as it contains only straight seams, uses large blocks and pieces quickly. This quilt is constructed using only fat quarters and is a great fit for a novelty print. It would make a great gift and can easily be personalized for the recipient.
Class Length
This class can be completed in one sitting (with the exclusion of quilting the quilt top). Recommended time 3-4 hrs.
Class Supply List
Project Teen by Melissa Mortenson
15 Fat Quarters - Novelty prints are a great fit for this quilt pattern
Rotary Cutter, Ruler & Mat
Pins
3 1/2 yards for quilt backing
1/2 yard for quilt binding
1 59"x59" piece of 100% cotton quilt batting.
Tip: The first part of this project requires cutting fabric in class. Make sure each student has their own cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter to save class time.
Classroom Preparation
Each student will need a design wall or large space on the floor to work out the arrangement of the blocks before they are sewn together.
Class Agenda
Full instructions for this quilt are on pages 101-104 of Project Teen. Students will use a rotary cutter and mat to cut out the triangles that make up the blocks of the quilt. They will then arrange the triangles (using a design wall or large space on the floor) according to the diagram in the book on page 104. The triangles will then be sewn into blocks, which are then sewn together by row to make a completed quilt top. Completed quilt size: 50 1/4" x 60 1/2"
