Norah Madigan McMeeking began her design career as a graphic designer for book, magazine publishers, and a natural history museum before she caught the "quilting bug." As well as organizing two nationally juried museum quilt exhibits (Natural Impressions I and II), she taught adult ed quiltmaking classes for 14 years before she wrote Bella Bella Quilts.
In addition to quilting, she enjoys travel and photography and, of course, reading. She once lived, worked at, and served on the board of directors of International House of Rhode Island where she greatly enjoyed the company of visitors from around the world. Once shy, she's now a true "people person," lacing her classes and lectures with humor and insight.
Married to a Scottish academic, she and her two (now grown) children have lived for long periods in England, Scotland, and Germany. Her husband teaches engineering at UC Santa Barbara, where they very happily reside.
Her work has appeared and won awards at the AQS Show, The National Patchwork Championships (UK), Road to California and others, as well as in invitational exhibits at the Pacific International Quilt Festival and several museums. Her special interests are complex piecing, pictorial quilt making and pattern design. She teaches both nationally and internationally and is very proud that many people have won awards with quilts based on her books.
