Self-taught folk artist, dollmaker and quilter Kristina Becker believed the best art comes from within. Kristina began sewing when she was five and always enjoyed making patterns. The motifs for her colorful and whimsical appliqués were inspired by the birds and cats in her neighborhood.
For eight years Kristina co-owned a quilting store in Pleasanton, California, where she and her partner, Nancy Taylor, fostered a thriving community of quilters. After they sold the shop in 1988 Kristina began focusing exclusively on her original appliqué quilts.
Kristina hoped that by sharing some of her own ways of working she would inspire other quilters and artists to have more fun with their art, to beak free from patterns, and create something all their own.
