Karen Flamme has combined an avocation as a fiber artist with a lengthy career as a writer and producer of award-winning corporate communications. Her embellished garments and textile creations were sold under the Thread Bear label. Karen turned to quilting a decade ago, and her quilts are exhibited in private collections. Her work recently appeared in Art Quilts: Encrustations, A Cut Above, and the Houston International Quilt Festival. Karen resides in Oakland and Pebble Beach, California.
The continual exploration of color, texture, and design - both in art and language - are fascinating to Karen. She sees self-expression as an essential part of an individual's growth and development, whether through words, art, music, or movement. She believes that quilts and handwork passed down through the generations are the foundation of this art form upon which quilters can now experiment to find their own voices.
