Valentine’s Day Craft Challenge

Here at C&T Publishing, you’ll find a staff that is just passionate about crafting as our customers! In an effort to flex our crafting muscles, we decided to create a staff wide Valentine’s Day Craft Challenge!
The challenge was to create a Valentine themed craft using only what we had in our personal crafting stash. It was so much fun to see what our staff pulled together. We had everything from your classic Valentine card to jewelry and quilts!
So, if you’re looking for some Valentine themed inspiration, check out three of our top makes!
Lauren took the classic Valentine card and used mixed media to create a really awesome postcard! A quilter and crafter, Lauren had these red, white and pink scraps in her stash as well as some natural Kraft-tex. It’s fair to say, we’re all pretty big fans of the versatility that comes in crafting with Kraft-tex!
Lauren started by stitching diagonally across her red rectangle and then stitched down some appliqué hearts before sewing it all down to the Kraft-tex. After writing a personal message with some Jelly-roll pens - this postcard is ready for delivery!
Want some Kraft-tex to create your own Valentine postcard? You can find it here.
Betsy F, C&T Publishing’s newest addition decided to have fun with our Quilt Builder Card Deck and built a mini quilt full of hugs and kisses! It was a great way to use the plethora of red and pink scraps she had laying in her stash. She started by searching the deck for blocks that might make a cute XOXO pattern. She chose to use the blocks “Toad in a Puddle”, “Heart”, “Art Square” and “Sarah’s Favorite."
After first making the “Art Square” with the color values on the card, she realized that block wasn’t reading like the strong “O” she wanted.
And so, Betsy adapted the card to feature a darker value in the center and it turned out great!
Rounding out our top three, in no particular order, Amber joined Lauren on the Kraft-tex train, this time creating some date-night earrings with the help of her electronic cutting machine using the color Marsala. The heart came from the cutting machine manufacturer. After loading the large heart into her cutting machine software, she used the software to resize the larger heart to make a slightly smaller heart. Amber then put the kraft-tex on her cutting mat with the strongest grip to make sure the kraft-tex didn’t budge during the cutting process.
After cutting out the shapes, and removing them from her cutting mat, Amber attached the smaller heart to the larger heart using tacky glue.
After adding the earring findings to the top, Amber has a cute new accessory to wear on Valentine’s day, made in under 20 minutes!
Lynn received some beautiful floral arrangements from loved ones upon the arrival of her baby girl a few months ago. To keep some as a keepsake, she dried the flowers and then made this dried floral arrangement on display in a cloche in her daughter's room.
