New Ways to Quilt As-You-Go

Jera Brandvig, author of Quilt As-You-Go Made Modern and Quilt As-You-Go Made Vintage, is back with more new blocks that can be quilted and pieced at the same time.
Quilted Crossroads and bonus pincushion
In Quilt As-You-Go Made Clever, Jera shows you her signature style of quilting each block as you piece it on top of a batting square.
If the pieces are small, the stitched piecing lines provide enough quilted texture to the quilt top—what could be any easier? Or, you could add more quilting by stitching wavy lines or other simple designs on the individual blocks before you assemble them. For quiltmakers who want to learn machine quilting, working on these small sections is an easy way to become comfortable with free-motion stitching!
Put it all together using one of Jera’s 3 quilt as-you-go joining techniques. To finish, add some minimal quilting to hold the top to the backing fabric, and you’re ready to bind the quilt.
Jera always adds some “extras” to her books, so check out her ideas for using your quilts in home decor. And see the project instructions for bonus projects and more ways you could add quilting as you piece the designs. For those of you who love extra dimension in your projects, see Magnolia Mini, a 3D design, and see how Jera has added ribbon and lace to other quilts, also accomplished as-you-go.
