Create Your Own Color Palette

Color is arguably one of the most essential elements of a project. Choosing the right color combinations can be difficult, especially when prints are thrown into the mix. Should you use solids or prints or combine the two? And what about value? Cindy takes the (color) wheel in this colorful, fabulous lecture! Strategically navigate the color wheel with simple tips and tricks along the way. You’ll learn how to choose a color palette of 8-12 fabrics that work together to create stunning projects. Discover alternative ways to gather your color inspiration from simple to personalized approaches, such as pulling colors from a focus fabric or using a favorite photo or piece of art as your inspiration.

Fiber artist Vicki Conley has been making art quilts since 2007 and is known for her National Park Art Quilts, inspired by the beautiful sights of her travels. By showing you how she made Glacier Bay, Vicki demonstrates the process of simplifying and combining photos into a workable design. In the first part, Vicki shows you how to select specific photographic elements for your quilt design, whether you work with one photo or a collection. She walks you through enlarging and printing your pattern and teaches you how to cut and piece the quilt stabilizer. Next, you'll learn everything you need to know to put it together — walk through turned edge machine piecing, sewing the pieces, lettering techniques, and more valuable skills you can transfer to any quilt project.

Dawn Star Quilt: Elevate Color Harmonies

Ombré fabrics turn simple patterns and blocks into colorful, stunning projects — the color shifts from light to dark over the length of the fabric. A master of color and fabric play, Jennifer Sampou has been sharing her expertise in color with students around the world. The Dawn Star Quilt celebrates the joy of our colorful skies above, and you can create one for yourself! Jennifer teaches useful color principles and value, then shows you how to make double sawtooth star blocks precisely. Use multiple ombré fabrics and capture dynamic movement as you explore foreground and background and the blurred lines in play. When you work on the secondary star, Jennifer touches on improv as the star lets the fabric do the work!
