Let’s start sewing

Let’s start sewing

I fell into teaching by accident. I was sewing for fun and making all my daughters clothes, she was 6 at the time and was mesmerized by the sewing machine. She was constantly asking me to teach her. As a self taught sewist, I knew I wanted to teach her the basics in a way that allowed her the creativity to take the skills and find a way to make things that made her happy.

Before I knew it, I was teaching not only her, but also a small group of her friends. My business grew from there.

The number one priority for me was to teach the kids (and adults) that sewing is not as daunting as they may have thought and that the most important thing is learning the basics of sewing, and sewing machine safety.

This may sound like a boring prospect but for me it’s truly the most important part of starting a sewing journey.

This is why I am so excited about my new book, “Sewing for Beginners, Handy pocket guide” It truly is the perfect little book to pop in your pocket and pull out when you need a little reminder about machine threading, fabric types and much, much more

My book covers all the important topics like the parts of a sewing machine, thread, and safety.

It also includes chapters on fabric choices and finding your inspiration as well as basic hand sewing stitches.

Maybe you are thinking of starting your own sewing studio! The great thing about this little book is that you can incorporate it into your student’s supplies and work your way through it in a classroom setting. Maybe you were given a machine and don’t have the first clue of what to do with it – this little guide will definitely take a little of the guess work out of getting started.

Here is the great thing! Once you know all of the basics, you can make anything your heart desires. You can take that creativity and make so many things…don’t sweat on the perfection and straight seams. That will all come with practice.

My very first quilt was a bit of a disaster, the points didn’t match up and some of my seams were a little wonky BUT it is still one of my most prized possessions as that beautiful imperfect quilt was the start of a colorful sewing journey.

I hope you have fun starting your own journey.
