Welcome to Installment #3 of Kim Diehl’s Simple Whatnots IV Mystery Stitch-Along! Read below to find directions for cutting and piecing fabric.
CUTTING
- From scraps of each of 6 different assorted prints, cut and separate by print:
- 1 center square, 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" (combined total of 6)
- From scraps of each of 6 different assorted prints, cut and separate by print:
- 1 strip for the side inner rectangles, 1” x 7” (combined total of 6)
- From scraps of each of 6 more complimentary assorted prints, cut, and separate by print:
- 1 strip for the side outer rectangles, 1" x 7" (combined total of 6)
- 2 squares from each print for the outer triangle corners, 1 7/8" x 1 7/8" (combined total of 12); each square in half diagonally once to yield 2 triangles (combined total of 24).
- From scraps of each of 6 additional assorted prints, cut, and separate by print:
- 2 squares from each print for the inner triangle corners, 1 7/8" x 1 7/8" (combined total of 12); each square in half diagonally once to yield 2 triangles (combined total of 24).
Choose 1 set of pieces cut for each of the 4 entries above, and group them together to make one block patchwork set. Repeat for a total of six block patchwork sets.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Referring to the Safe Keeping project beginning on page 9, "Piece the Churn Dash A Blocks," following steps 1-3 using one patchwork set per block to piece a total of 6 Churn Dash A blocks measuring 3 1/2" square, including the seam allowances.
2. Reserve these pieced Churn Dash A blocks and all fabric scraps for Installment #5.
