Kim Diehl’s Simple Whatnots IV Mystery Stitch-Along Part 1

Welcome to Installment #1 of Kim Diehl’s Simple Whatnots IV Mystery Stitch-Along! Read below to find directions for cutting and piecing fabric.
Cutting
- From scraps of assorted prints, cut a total of:
- 16 squares, 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”; cut each square in half diagonally once to yield 2 triangles (combined total of 32)
- From scraps of cream prints, cut a total of:
- 16 squares, 1 3/4" x 1 3/4”
Instructions
1. Referring to the Garden Trug project beginning on page 39, “Piecing the Center Unit of the Table Runner”, substitute the cream 1 3/4” squares for the gray squares noted and follow steps 1 – 4 to piece a total of 16 blocks measuring 2 1/2" square, including the seam allowances.
2. Lay out the pieced blocks in four horizontal rows as shown below. Press the seam allowances as directed by the arrows. Join the rows. Press as directed. The pieced block unit should measure 8 1/2" square, including the seam allowances.
3. Reserve this pieced Installment #1 block unit and all fabric scraps for Installment #2.
