Kim Diehl’s Mystery Stitch-Along: Installment #2

Welcome to Installment #2 of Kim Diehl’s Mystery Stitch-Along! Read below to find directions for cutting and piecing fabric.
Cutting
- From the gray bitty brick, cut:
- 2 squares, 3 7⁄8" × 3 7⁄8"; cut each square in half diagonally
- Once to yield 2 triangles (a total of 4)
- 2 squares, 3 7⁄8" × 3 7⁄8"; cut each square in half diagonally
- From the assorted cream scraps, cut:
- 4 squares, 3 7⁄8" × 3 7⁄8"; cut each square in half diagonally
- Once to yield 2 triangles (a total of 8; 1 of each color will be extra).
- Note: For a less scrappy look, you can cut just 2 squares and use all 4 triangles cut.
- 4 squares, 3 7⁄8" × 3 7⁄8"; cut each square in half diagonally
- From the black fat quarter, cut:
- 1 square, 2 1⁄2" × 2 1⁄2"
Instructions
- Using Simple Whatnots III, refer to the Making Waves project and follow step 1 of “Piecing the Large and Small Half-Square-Triangle Units” on page 108 to piece four gray-and-cream large half-square-triangle units.
- Lay out the four gray-and-cream triangle units, the black 2 1⁄2" square, and the 12 flying-geese units from Week 1 in three horizontal rows as shown. Join the pieces in each row. Press. Join the rows. Press. The finished Flying-Geese Variation block should measure 8 1⁄2" square, including the seam allowances.
