Hand Stitching Made Easy: The Joy of Stitched Samplers
Posted by Tammy Silvers on Jul 25th 2024
Hello, quilty friends! I’m so excited to be sharing a side of me that many don’t get to see—the embroidery/embellishment side!
My path to quilting didn’t follow the usual “my mother did it” (pssttt…she did—but she started not long before I did and was many states away). I fell into quilting because my sister-in-law asked me to take a quilting class with her. I did - and made the saddest excuse for a quilt top you ever saw! But I fell in love with the process...and who can blame me!
Fast forward ten years: I decided to teach quilting. I mean...I know how to quilt, so I can teach it, right?! It wasn’t long before I was making up quilt projects for my students to make. One of them just happened to work next door to the offices of Quilt Magazine - and a random parking lot conversation with Jean Anne Wright, the editor at the time, lead to me creating quilts for the magazine.
Fast forward a few years later: I’m designing projects for various fabric companies. Another jump forward—I’m asked to design fabric!
Yes, I design fabric. Yes, I design quilt patterns—a LOT of quilt patterns. And almost all of them are machine pieced (paper pieced, strip pieced, even guided improv, a technique I developed and LOVE LOVE LOVE). I’ve got hundreds of patterns under my belt. But I also love embroidery and embellishment, especially when it’s easy, minimalist, and forgiving in nature!
And that brings us to Primitive Stitch Sampler! I’ve been working on samples of the various stitches and am so excited to share them with you. I think you’re going to love this relaxed approach to stitching, and guess what? It can double as your appliqué/quilting stitches too! I know—double bonus score!
Join me at Embroidery Extravaganza 2024 on Thursday, August 8th! You'll learn how to create a charming wall hanging featuring simple appliquéd hearts, perfect for practicing a variety of hand stitches. I'll guide you through fused appliqué and demonstrate primitive stitches that add decorative flair and functionality.
Secure your spot and use the code "EE24TAMMY" for $20 off the event at checkout.
See you there!
