Get Ready for Halloween!
Posted by Deirdre Quirk on Sep 29th 2017
Can you believe Halloween is only a month away? I'm already planning my costume and breaking out the Halloween decorations to get my house looking spooky. To help you decorate your own home for the best holiday of the year (at least in my opinion!), we've gathered together three Halloween-themed projects: a traditional, pieced quilt in orange and black, folk-art style wool pumpkin pillows, and a scrappy Jack o' Lantern quilt.
This lap quilt from Kim Schafer's Festive Fall Quilts is perfect to cuddle up under on a chilly fall night. You can download the free pattern here.
Rebekah L. Smith says of these pumpkin pillows in Seasons of Wool Appliqué Folk Art: "These wooly pumpkins are my way of bringing them into the house without the fear that they will rot suddenly and leave a terrible mess in an antique bowl or basket. You could make one, or both, or a pile of them to mound in a large basket. They will be a cherished fall addition to any home." Download the pattern for these pretty pillows here.
P.S. This book was included in a great Daily Deals round-up!
This project from Sew a Modern Halloween by Riel Nason features the most traditional of Halloween decorations—the jack-o'-lantern. And just as you improvise when you carve a real pumpkin, you can do much the same with fabric in these projects. Piece the jack-o’-lantern with scraps following this method to create your own look. The pattern can be downloaded here.
Happy sewing!
