Free-Motion Quilting Idea Sampler

Hi everyone!
So glad to be over here visiting C&T’s blog for National Sewing Month! I hope you are getting lots of ideas for fun projects!
My name is Amanda Murphy and I’m the author of Modern Holiday, Color Essentials, and the Free-Motion Quilting Idea Book, and today I’d like to share my Free-Motion Quilting Idea Sampler with you guys. It is a downloadable companion piece to the Free-Motion Quilting Idea Book. For those of you who might not have seen the book, which just came out in July, it is really a jumping-off point for quilters who might have tried out a few patterns but are looking for inspiration when applying patterns to quilt blocks. There are 30 blocks in the book, plus sashing, borders, and individual motifs, with a variety of quilting plans for each–and they are all built off of a group of allover designs so you can mix and match them! (The companion app to the book is coming soon!)
After I finished writing the Free-Motion Quilting Idea Book–or really drawing the book, as it is 90 percent drawings–I thought it would be a great idea if we had piecing instructions for each block so people could make up quick practice pieces. We decided to bundle them all together and make a downloadable companion sampler. This project is an excellent way to practice lots of the quilting plans in the Free-Motion Quilting Idea Book.
I pieced the original version of the sampler on my BERNINA 780 with Aurifil 50wt cotton and Benartex Color Weave prints and quilted it on my BERNINA 24 in Aurifil monofilament….
For those who are interested in sewing the sampler (or just hanging out with other quilters!), I’m hosting a Facebook group, and I hope you will consider joining us there. This time I’m sewing my version in my Carina line for Benartex, which is in stores now, but people are sewing it in lots of different fabrics over there, which is really fun! My good friend Cherry Guidry, the author of Celebrate the Seasons, is sewing hers in her Soul Blossoms line for Benartex and she’ll be popping in to sew with us! (On Instagram, we are planning to use the hashtag #FMQIdeaBook.)
Also, it’s the first time I’ve announced this, but next month I have two more new books coming out with C&T: Quilted Celebrations, which has fun modern patterns for the special moments in our lives, from births, birthdays, bar mitzvahs, and baptisms to weddings and anniversaries, and a coloring book coming out based upon my fabric designs, called Modern Elegance. (Because coloring fabric is almost as fun as buying and sewing with fabric!) I hope you guys enjoy them!
