Color Theme of the Day: Violet and Yellow Split-Complementary
Posted by Deirdre Quirk on Apr 1st 2016
It's our fourth color theme of the day! This time around, we've chosen a split-complementary scheme for yellow and violet! A split-complementary color scheme combines the complementary and analogous color schemes; in this case, violet is the center color of the analogous portion (along with its neighbors blue, blue-violet, red-violet, and purple) and yellow is the complement.
This vibrant color scheme is take from Joen Wolfrom's Ultimate 3-in-1 Color Tool. It's an attention-getting color combination that draws the eye and creates wonderful energy, whether it's used in quilts, clothing, or home decor!
This electric quilt from Patchwork City by Elizabeth Hartman uses a slightly broader palette than our chosen color theme, incorporating hints of orange and aqua blue, but it's the yellow-violet split-complementary colors that give this quilt its zing.
In this adorable yet stylish outfit from Modern Style for Girls, Mary Abreu has paired a busy, exciting print with yellow, violet, and several of its analogous colors with a lighter tint of blue to balance it out.
Yum! The yellow-violet color scheme looks sweet and tasty when used in a cupcake wallhanging in the Cupcakes! ebook edited by Lynn Koolish.
How would you use this color scheme?
