3. 183 Browser Windows Lecture: A Sashiko Rabbit Hole
Shannon Leigh Roudhán and Jason Bowlsby are authors and instructors with over 30 years of experience under their belts who teach their crafts and research knowledge with enthusiasm and a quirky sense of humor. In this 90 minute lecture, Jason and Shannon take you down their Sashiko research rabbit hole, full of twists, turns, Elvis(!) and laughs! Travel through the history of Boro & Sashiko from the perspective of these two passionate and fun researchers without leaving the comfort of your armchair!
4. African Prints for Contemporary Quilts, Crafts and More
Open your world to African prints (also commonly known as Ankara prints) and learn why they are at the forefront of style. From fashion to home decor to quilts and crafts, these bright, vivid designs bring excitement to any project! But what exactly IS an African print, and how do you use them? Carole Lyles Shaw and Lisa Shepard Stewart are ready to answer these questions and more.
Lisa Shepard Stewart of Cultured Expressions discusses the unique appeal of Ankara, along with tips for confidently mixing the colors and bold motifs. She'll also share a bit about the language of Ankara prints, their cultural significance, and their fascinating international history. Then, Carole Lyles Shaw, an award-winning modern quilt designer, and author shares her inspiration and creative tips for incorporating these prints into her AfroModern quilting aesthetic.
5. Beautiful Landscape Quilts Lecture
Joyce Becker, experienced landscape designer and lecturer, invites you to a fun-filled, humorous lecture where she shows a collection of her landscape quilts and how she decorates her studio and home with them. Along the way, she shares tips and tricks about some of the techniques she uses when creating these beautiful quilts. This humorous presentation includes motivational dialogue about the trials and errors of quilting and a reminder that perfection is never required when on your quilting journey. The lecture also features 35 of Joyce’s most famous realistic landscape quilts.
6. Zero Waste Sewing: A Create and Sustain Special Event
Zero Waste Sewing is a two-part presentation with award-winning author and designer Liz Haywood hosted by Create and Sustain. In an effort to positively impact the environment, Liz discovered a zero-waste method of garment making and design in 2017. Liz's keen eye and decades of commercial garment making merge into an environmentally friendly alternative to using commercial patterns built on the goal of reducing the amount of fabric wasted. Liz will discuss how she discovered and utilized zero-waste pattern cutting during the first recorded lecture. She then offers an overview of the zero-waste design process and highlights the ways zero-waste patterns differ from traditional pattern making.
