A Subtle Spooky

A Subtle Spooky

Well—I never thought I’d appreciate a chic, understated Halloween.

The spookiest of holidays usually stands for crazy costumes and spiderwebs crossing over every surface. But as Riel Nason says in her new book, Sew a Modern Halloween, it may be the right time to leave the preschool party behind.

That’s not to say tacky Halloween shindigs don’t have their moment, but keeping the orange and black streamers, the cackling witch statue, or the screaming doormat up for longer than a few days might cause some headaches.

Which is fine, because Riel has combined modern with fun and spooky with classy.

There’s nothing better for Halloween enthusiasts than looking around their home and seeing all their crafty work adding charm and a hint of delight. Chic throw pillows, tasteful banners, and other projects combine the originality of a handmade decoration with the spirit of Halloween—without all the thunderclaps every time someone rings a novelty doorbell!
