Hand stitching and embroidery projects make great art and it is beautiful to hang on the wall. But there are lots of ways you can use and enjoy your projects besides this.

Here are 7 fun ways you can use your embroidery.

1. Make a Greeting Card

Nothing would brighten someone’s day more than getting a greeting card with hand embroidery. It’s a personal and thoughtful gift.

There are two different ways of using embroidery on cards. You can purchase or make cards that have holes punched in them. Your embroidered fabric is mounted inside the card and it acts as a frame.

The other option is to stitch right onto the paper. This involved punching holes in the card and then stitching through them.

Either of these options make a beautiful project.

2. Use Embroidery in a Quilt

Embroidery and quilting go together wonderfully. You can use your embroidery as part of a quilt block, or have it as a feature block in your project.

Not a quilter? You could make a joint project with a quilting friend.

3. Make a Pillow

Many people enjoy throw pillows as decorating accents, and embroidery makes these one of a kind.

You can customize pillows to match your aesthetic or decorate seasonally.

If you have small embroidery pieces, make tiny pillows and use them as pincushions.

4. Embellish Clothing

Almost any type of clothing can be embellished with embroidery. Shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, and even coats, jackets and shoes can be great foundations for embroidery.

Use your imagination to create a one-of-kind piece of wearable art.

5. Make a Bag (or pocket)

Everyone has reusable bags, and embroidery is a perfect way to customize them. Add pictures, words or geometric shapes to your favourite bag or make a bag from scratch.

If your stitching piece is too small to make a bag, you can use it to make a pocket to add onto another bag.

Custom bags are fun to use and they make great gifts for friends, teachers, neighbors and even kids.

6. Embellish Table Linens

Placemats, table runners, tea towels and napkins are all traditional embroidery projects, and it’s for good reason.

These are all items that can be used and enjoyed in everyday life.

Whether you use patterns, iron-on transfers or just freestyle embroidery stitches, you can make a beautiful and useful items that your friends and family will love.

7. Make Christmas Tree Ornaments

Small embroidery pieces can be used to make Christmas ornaments that are sure to become family heirlooms.

Customize your ornaments with names, dates or personal memories to make them even more special.

So if your walls are covered with embroidery pieces and you are running out of space, remember that there is a lot more you can do with your stitching.

Make hand-stitched items a part of your everyday life to bring joy to yourself and others.
